After the first turn they may no longer be facing the top of the page. • If a student says they do not know a place name, they may use the key words in the word bank, or ask a neighbor. The key has English meanings. • If a student finishes early, ask them to check each route a second time by tracing it with a different color, then use the early finisher list. • If the room gets noisy, tell students that the map work is silent, and partners may talk during the final check. Early finishers • Write directions in Spanish from the Escuela to the Cine. Trade with a neighbor and check each other’s routes. • Draw your own 3 × 3 map on the back with nine places and write two sets of directions for a partner. Support and challenge • Support: Let students work with a partner on items 1–4, and give them only the commands for hablar, comer and escribir in items 5–7. • Challenge: Ask students to write directions that use at least three turns and two different command forms, such as sigue and cruza.
