Goal for today: Students will match key FFA events to their years, match emblem symbols to their meanings, and
name the three parts of agricultural education.
Before the bell
☐ Copy the worksheet, one per student (2 pages).
☐ This is a paper-only lesson. Students must not use any tools, equipment or animals.
☐ Write on the board: FFA = a national youth organization for students interested in agriculture and leadership.
☐ Keep the answer key on your desk. You do not need to know anything about FFA.
Say this to start
Good morning! Your teacher left a lesson on the history of the FFA, a national youth organization in agricultural
education. You will read a short passage and then match dates, symbols and meanings. Everything you need is on the
worksheet. Work on your own first and check with a partner at the end.

If things go wrong
• If students say they are not in FFA or do not know what it is, explain that the passage tells them everything
they need.
• If a student finishes in under 20 minutes, ask them to double-check the matching and add one more detail to
question 18, then use the early finisher list.
• If students ask to stand up and say the motto aloud, they may recite it quietly at their seats. Keep the room
calm.
• If students ask for outside information, tell them to answer from the passage only.
Early finishers
• Write your own one-sentence meaning for each line of the FFA motto.
• Design an emblem for a club you would start. Draw and explain two symbols.
• List three careers in agriculture that do not involve working on a farm.
Support and challenge
• Support: Let students use the passage for every answer and complete only questions 1–9, 14–16 and 17.
• Challenge: Ask students to write a short paragraph explaining how the FFA changed from 1928 to today using
the years in the passage.
