Say this to start
Good morning! Today is about the habits that make someone a good coworker. You will read short stories about people
at their first jobs and decide whether their choices are professional. There are some judgment calls, so be ready to
explain your thinking. Work on your own first and then compare with a partner.

If things go wrong
• If students argue about a judgment call, tell them to explain their reasoning in their written answer. The
reason matters more than the letter.
• If a student says “my boss would never care,” ask what would happen if every employee thought that way.
• If students share stories about real employers, thank them but redirect to the worksheet and ask them to
keep names out of it.
• If a student finishes early, use the early finisher list.
Early finishers
• Write a short list of five habits you would want from a coworker if you were the boss.
• Create your own two-sentence scenario about a workplace problem and write the best response.
Support and challenge
• Support: Read each scenario aloud before students answer.
• Challenge: Ask students to write what they would say to the person in scenario 3 in a polite, one-minute
conversation.
