Good morning! Today in French you will read a short passage about a French girl named Léa and her family. Then you
will answer questions in English and write a few French sentences about your own family. If you see words you do not
know, check the glossary on the worksheet. You may read with a partner if you like.

If things go wrong
• If students say the passage is too hard, tell them to read for words they know and use the glossary. They do
not need to understand every word.
• If a student does not want to write about their real family, tell them they may invent a family (for example, a
family from a book or TV show).
• Remind students not to include addresses, phone numbers or last names in their sentences. First names and
ages are fine.
• If students finish early, direct them to the early finishers list.
Early finishers
• Draw a simple family tree for the Dubois family and label each person in French.
• Write three more true/false statements about the passage and trade with a neighbor.
Support and challenge
• Support: Students may answer questions 1–8 only and write one sentence for question 15.
• Challenge: Students rewrite the passage’s first four sentences to describe their own family.
