Say this to start
Good morning! Today you will practice French numbers and telling time. The numbers and time phrases you need are
on the board. Use them. Some of your work is math, but you will write the answers in French words. Work quietly on
your own, and then we will check the answers together.

What you do
What students do
0–5
Take attendance. Hand out the worksheet and point out
the board reference.
Take out a pencil and read the board.
5–10
Ask the class to count aloud together from 1 to 10 in
French, reading from the board. Then count by tens to 60.
Count aloud as a class, reading the board.
10–20
Tell students to complete the table at the top of page 1
(numbers to French words). Walk around and make sure
they check the board.
Write each number in French words.
20–32
Tell students to complete Part B (questions 1–8). Explain
that they should solve the math and write the answer in
French words.
Solve each math problem and write the
answer as a French word.
32–42
Tell students to complete Part C (matching clocks to French
sentences, questions 9–14), then Part D (questions 15–16).
Match each time. Write 2:30 in French.
Choose a number and write it in French
words.
42–50
Read the answers aloud from the key (the English math
answers are given in digits too). Students mark their work.
Collect all worksheets.
Check answers, correct mistakes, and hand
in the worksheet.
If things go wrong
• If students say they have forgotten how to say a number, point to the board list. Remind them that numbers
like 22 and 56 are built from tens plus ones.
• If students ask how to pronounce a number, say, “Do your best and sound it out.” Spelling is the main goal
today.
• If students rush through the clocks, ask them to read each French sentence aloud quietly and compare it with
the board reference.
• If a student finishes early, they can check a neighbor’s spelling of the numbers against the board, including
the accent in zéro.
Early finishers
• Write the times for your first three classes of the day in French using Il est … heures.
• Write five numbers between 20 and 60 in digits on the back and swap with a neighbor to write them in words.
Support and challenge
• Support: Students only need to complete questions 1, 2, 3, 5 and 6 in Part B, and the first three matches in
Part C.
• Challenge: Students write the times 6:15, 4:30 and 11:45 in French without looking at the board reference.
