Goal for today: Students will form and interpret comparisons of inequality and equality in Spanish using data from a
table.
Before the bell
☐ Copy the worksheet, one per student (2 pages).
☐ Write on the board: más ... que = more than, menos ... que = less than, tan ... como = as ... as.
☐ Keep the answer key on your desk. Every answer comes with an English translation.
Say this to start
Today’s Spanish practice is about comparing people and things: taller than, younger than, as tall as. Everything you
need is in the data table and rule box on the worksheet. You will read some comparisons and decide if they are true, fill
in the missing words, and then write your own.

What students do
0–5
Take attendance. Hand out the worksheet and ask

Point to the three comparison patterns on the board. Ask a
student to say, in English, which pattern means “as tall
as.”
Answer: tan ... como.

Tell students to complete the True/False items 1–6 using
the table. Remind them to check ages and heights in the
table.

If things go wrong
• If students say they are not sure about mayor and menor, tell them these two mean older and younger for
people.
• If a student argues that a statement is not true, ask them to point to the numbers in the table. The table
decides.
• If a student finishes early, ask them to check each statement against the table one more time, then use the
early finisher list.
• If students ask whether there is a difference between más joven and menor, tell them both mean younger.
Either is fine here.
Early finishers
• Write four more comparisons about the four teens in the table, two with más/menos and two with tan/como.
• Compare two classmates or celebrities in three Spanish sentences. Keep the comparisons friendly.
Support and challenge
• Support: Let students complete items 1–3, 7–9 and 13–14, and use the rule box as a guide.
• Challenge: Ask students to write a short paragraph of five sentences comparing their family members, using
at least two irregular forms (mejor, peor, mayor, menor).
